Why AsahiGuard® E-SERIES?

1. Fluorine
Fluorine is the 13th most common element of about 90 natural elements found in the earth's crust. The fluorine molecule has unique characteristics such as small dimensional size, high electro negativity, and the formation of a very strong chemical bond with carbon. For these reasons fluorinated organic materials have excellent heat, chemical and weather resistant properties. Because of these properties fluorine chemical compounds are used in applications such as manufacturing non-stick frying pans, heat resistant cables, hoses for chemical use, colourfast paints, and water and oil resistant textiles. Another common use for fluorine is the addition to toothpaste to help prevent tooth decay. Fluorine manufactured products enhance our everyday lives.
2. Advantages
Water resistance occurs when surface tension of the solid surface is lower than the liquid surface tension. (See diagram)
Perfluoroalkyl group (Rf group) shows the lowest surface tension. The solid surface coated by the Rf group is resistant not only to water soluble liquids such as water, coffee and milk, but also to highly permeable liquids such as oil, alcohol and gasoline. Fluorinated water and oil repellant agents are recognised as being better than wax or silicone agents because of their better durability.
3. Advantages of AsahiGuard® E-Series
AsahiGuard® has been used for more than 35 years in over 30 countries. Examples of everyday applications where the oil and water repellency of AsahiGuard® is key are umbrellas, raincoats, sportswear, carpets, leather goods, hamburger wrappers, disposable nappies and trainers.
Asahi Glass Corporation developed AsahiGuard® E-SERIES in its mission to continuously improve its product offering. AsahiGuard® E-SERIES is the next generation water and oil repellent agent. It has the same performance characteristics as existing fluorinated water and oil repellent agents.
4. Differences between our products and others
Conventional fluorinated water and oil repellent agents have a very small amount of PFOA and its precursors. PFOA and its precursors are widely found in our environment. Some scientists believe conventional fluorinated water & oil repellent agents are a source of PFOA. AsahiGuard® E-SERIES offers the same performance as conventional products but without PFOA or its precursors. Our existing product line-up, as well as the solution of the PFOA issue.
